The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technological concept that connects everyday physical objects—such as appliances, vehicles, machines, and devices—to the internet, enabling them to collect, exchange, and act on data without direct human involvement. These objects are embedded with sensors, software, and communication tools that allow them to monitor their environment, transmit information, and sometimes respond automatically.

For example, a smart thermostat used by a logistics and transportation company that ships packages across the country needs to monitor the location and condition (e.g., temperature, humidity) of high-value shipments in real time to reduce losses and improve delivery accuracy, while a connected vehicle can report maintenance needs or optimize routes using GPS data.
